Jewellery owner suffers serious burns in daylight attack in Kottayam; accused arrested

KOTTAYAM: A jewellery owner in Ramapuram was rushed to the hospital after suffering serious burns in an attack on Saturday. In a purported attempt to kill Ashokan, the assailant poured petrol on the shop and set it on fire. Ashokan is the owner of a jewellery shop in Kannanat near the Ramapuram bus stand. He is now undergoing treatment in the hospital with serious burns.

Another shop owner, Mohandas, who works in the same building owned by Ashokan, is reported to have carried out the attack. A financial dispute between the two is reported to have led to the brutal crime. Mohandas has been taken into custody by the police following the incident.
