KOCHI: The producer and director of the Malayalam movie 'Janaki vs. State of Kerala' (JSK) will approach the court against the censor board decision to deny screening the film. The makers of the movie are adamant not to conform to the CBFC's demand to change the title of the movie.
The censor board earlier asked the makers to change the name Janaki from the movie, citing it being synonymous with Sita Devi according to Hindu mythology. In the movie, the character Janaki is subjected to brutal harassment, which prompted CBFC to make the decision, in a bid to avoid controversies.
Producer J. Phanindra Kumar and scriptwriter and director Pravin Narayanan have initiated moves to approach the High Court in case they receive a written notice. Kerala Film Producers Association Secretary B. Rakesh expressed solidarity with the makers of JSK.
JSK, starring Suresh Gopi and Anupama Parameswaran in the lead roles, is a courtroom thriller. The movie was scheduled to be released on June 27th.
