KALPETTA: Priyanka Gandhi won the Wayanad Lok Sabha by-election in her maiden electoral battle to the Parliament. The only question in Wayanad was how much is the majority. The answer is 4.10 lakhs after the counting of votes is completed. The people of Wayanad gave Priyanka the second largest majority in the history of the constituency and the Lok Sabha elections in Kerala.
Priyanka did not go behind at any point since the counting of postal votes started in the morning. Gradually increasing her majority, she became the successor of her brother Rahul Gandhi. Priyanka bagged 64.99 percent of the total votes polled and bagged 6,22,338 votes and a majority of 4,10,931 votes. Sathyan Mokeri, the nearest opposition candidate, got only 2,11,407 votes. 2 lakh votes short of Priyanka's majority.
In 2014, Mokeri lost to Congress candidate M I Shanavas by a margin of just 20,870 votes. He got 3,56,165 votes in 2014. Navya Haridas, the BJP candidate in the constituency and Kozhikode Corporation councilor, has lost the money she deposited. Navya got 1,09,939 votes. In 2024, K Surendran got 1,41,045 votes.
The largest majority in the constituency was 4,31,770 won by Rahul Gandhi in 2019. In 2024, Priyanka won the by-election by surpassing Rahul Gandhi's majority of 3,64,442 votes.
