THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala is likely to experience rain and strong winds today. Yellow alert has been sounded in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram and Kozhikode. Isolated heavy rain is predicted. Heavy rain means that there is a possibility of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain in 24 hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that there is a possibility of strong winds with a speed of 40 to 50 kmph till tomorrow. Strong winds are the most damaging and life-threatening disaster in Kerala. There is a possibility of accidents due to uprooting of trees and branches falling. The IMD has informed that under no circumstances should one stand under trees or park vehicles during wind and rain.
In the next three hours, there is a possibility of moderate rain in isolated places in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Ernakulam and strong winds with a speed of up to 50 kmph. The IMD has informed that there is a possibility of moderate rain and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph at isolated places in all other districts.
