THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala University Senate meeting has revoked the suspension of Anil Kumar, the registrar for disrespecting the Governor, also the chancellor. The decision has surpassed the opposition of temporary vice chancellor Ciza Thomas. The two BJP representatives who attended the meeting opposed the decision. It is also reported that a three-member committee was appointed in the syndicate meeting convened today to examine the steps taken to suspend the registrar. The action came after a special meeting of the Kerala University Syndicate was held at 11 am today in the wake of his suspension reaching the court.

Meantime, Ciza Thomas told media that the registrar’s suspension has not been revoked. When the decision to revoke the suspension was taken in the meeting, she adjourned the meeting and left. Once the meeting is suspended and the chairman leaves, the meeting has no relevance. The suspension has not been revoked. She also clarified that the agenda of the meeting has not been completed.

Vice Chancellor Dr Mohanan Kunnummal suspended Dr K S Anil Kumar for issuing a notice cancelling the function attended by the Governor also serving as Chancellor in the Senate Hall, at the last minute on June 26.

The registrar claimed that he ordered to cancel the function after seeing a religious symbol on the stage. The security officer informed that a picture of a Hindu deity was placed. The registrar had informed the court that he had personally inspected it. The registrar argued that the Vice Chancellor did not have the authority to suspend high-ranking officials. The Syndicate has the authority to do so. The registrar informed the court that according to the Kerala University Act, the VC can only take disciplinary action against employees below the deputy registrar.
