KOCHI: The government has filed an appeal in the High Court against the dropping of the murder charge against Sriram Venkataraman in the case related to the death of journalist KM Basheer. The government's argument is that the murder case against Sriram will stand. In the petition, the government also demanded that the action of the lower court should be quashed.

Thiruvananthapuram Additional District Sessions Court dropped the murder charge against Sriram Venkitaraman and Wafa Firoz in the KM Basheer death case. The court ruled on the release petition filed by the accused. The court also stated that only the charges of non-culpable homicide, drunken driving and negligent driving will remain against Sriram. The court also said that only the charge under the Motor Vehicle Act will remain against the second accused Wafa Firoz. The trial of the case was also transferred from the Sessions Court to the Magistrate's Court. The court also directed the accused to appear before the magistrate court on July 20 for trial.
