Kollam well tragedy: Two youths die after rope snaps during rescue attempt

KOLLAM: Two young men lost their lives in a tragic accident at Kalluvathukkal, Kollam, after a rescue attempt went wrong. Vishnu (23), a native of Kalluvathukkal, who fell into the well, and Harilal (24), of Dhavalakuzhi, Mayyanad, who went down to rescue him, both died on Saturday evening.

The accident occurred while Harilal was helping Vishnu climb out of the well. As they were being pulled up, the rope snapped and both fell back inside. Harilal, an employee at a nearby private factory, rushed to the spot after hearing the cries of Vishnu’s family. Eyewitnesses said the rope broke when they had reached the middle of the well. The bodies have been shifted to Parippally Medical College Hospital.
