THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian meteorological department predicted rains to continue in the state until Wednesday. The rains will be fiercer in the northern parts of Kerala due to the strengthening of the westerly wind. At the same time, there will be a slight decrease in the rain after Wednesday.

Red Alert on Sunday - Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod

Orange Alert - Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad

There is a warning of possible lightning and flash floods in the hilly areas of Kasaragod, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur.

Unexpected landslides are a possibility in the hilly areas of the state. During the recent rains, more water than its storage capacity has entered the soil. Landslides occur when pressure under the soil increases and the amount of groundwater increases. The possibility of landslides is higher in hilly areas with a slope of more than 22 degrees. People residing in these regions are instructed to immediately move to a safer location.

There will be very strong winds along with the rain. Strong winds may blow at a speed of up to 65 km per hour.
