Landslides repeat on national highway between Taliparamba Kuppam in Kannur and Kasaragod; locals block the road in protest

KANNUR: Landslides near the newly constructed National Highway 66 in Kannur and Kasaragod. Landslides occurred again in Taliparamba Kuppam in Kannur. Today, there were two landslides here. The accident occurred while vehicles were passing. The landslides occurred here in the morning and afternoon. Following the incident, local residents and locals came out to protest. Locals protested that the district collector had not yet visited the landslide area. They blocked the road.

Despite the problem, the National Highway Authority authorities did not immediately reach the spot. The landslides occurred twice at the place where a hill was dug for the construction of the National Highway. The locals say they will protest until security is provided at the spot. People who have houses in the area are worried as the mud and water reaches their homes during the rains. There is no place for the water to drain.

The approach road of the National Highway collapsed in Kanhangad, Kasaragod. This is the second time that the road has collapsed here. The approach road has collapsed to the point where it can no longer be used. Meanwhile, a team of experts from the National Highways Authority inspected the collapsed section of the approach road of National Highway 66 in Kooriyad, Malappuram yesterday. The inspection was conducted by a team of Dr. Anil Dixit (Jaipur). Dr. Jimmy Thomas (Kochi).

Public Works Minister P.A. Mohammed Riyas said in a Facebook post that the unfortunate incidents related to the construction of the national highway were extremely unfortunate. The minister also said that he had contacted the National Highways Authority as soon as he heard the news.
