Local body elections: Voting on Tuesday; final outdoor political campaign in seven districts today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The first phase of local body elections will be held in seven districts today. The 'Kottikalasham' will end in the evening. People from Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam will cast their votes on Tuesday. Voting will be held from 7 am to 6 pm. The 'Kottikalasham' from Thrissur to Kasaragod is on Tuesday. Voting will be held on the 11th. Counting of votes will be on the 13th.

Mock polls will be held at polling stations at 6 am on Tuesday. Voting will begin at 7 am. There will be a total of 33,746 polling stations. There will be 28,127 polling stations for village, block and district panchayats, 3,604 for municipalities and 2,015 for corporations. 70,000 police personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order. There are videographers and webcasting facilities at the problem-prone booths. Voters can cast three votes for village, block and district panchayats at the panchayat level and one vote for the municipality.

Special permission for central employees

The Department of Personnel and Training of the Central Government has informed the State Election Commission that special permission will be given to central employees to vote in local body elections. They will be allowed to come to the office late, leave early, or be given special time. The action is based on a letter issued by the Election Commission.
