KOCHI: Cobra snake caught from first grader's school bag. The incident took place yesterday morning at Abdul Aziz's house in Kakkanad Athani Elavakkad.

Aziz's youngest son, who had returned from tuition on Friday evening, left his bag under the table in the living room of the house. Yesterday morning, when the maid came to clean the house, she found the bag unusually heavy when she was putting it away. The maid saw the cobra when she opened the bag to check.

The five-foot-long snake hissed and tried to jump out. The maid threw the bag away and ran. Aziz's relative, who was at home, used a stick to push the bag into the yard. The relative immediately, via the Forest Department's Sarpa app, contacted Elamakkara native Rinshad Nassar, a volunteer who catches snakes. Rinshad arrived, caught the snake from the bag and handed it over to the Forest Department. It is believed that the snake entered the bag from inside the house. There were two other children at home.
