KOZHIKODE: A major fire broke out at a plastic waste processing factory at Elokkara near Thamarassery. The plant and a three-storied building were completely gutted in the fire. A pickup van parked nearby was also gutted. The incident happened Thursday morning at around 3.30.

A major disaster was averted as no employees were present in the factory at the time of the fire. The fire broke out in the factory, which processes waste from various places. It is believed that the accident was caused by the fire in a garbage dump in the factory. The authorities said that it is not clear how the fire started. The fire is not yet under control. Six fire force units have reached the spot and are continuing efforts to douse the flames.
