Major theft in Kowdiar Palace; Gold ornaments worth Rs 2 crore go missing

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Gold ornaments worth Rs 2 crore have been stolen from Kowdiar Palace. The ornaments kept in the almirah went missing. The Peroorkada police registered a case and have started investigation on the complaint filed by Aswathy Thirunal Gowri Lakshmi Bayi, the senior member of the royal family.

The gold ornaments, including precious stones were kept in an iron box. The ornaments were found missing when opened the cupboard before leaving for Bengaluru in last November. The ornaments were taken out and kept back safely ten days before this. A complaint was filed with the police two days ago as they could not be found even after an intense search. The police have registered a case and started an investigation into the incident.


The stolen items include a gold chain with coral and gold pearls weighing half a sovereign, an anklets of pichipoomottu design of three sovereigns, an anklets of two sovereigns of black and gold beads, two bangles of four sovereigns, two bangles of three sovereigns, two big earrings of red stones, gold locket of 2.5 sovereigns, a chain of five sovereigns, nagapada earrings worth 8 lakhs, matti of two sovereigns, two bangles containing rubies and diamonds weighing six sovereigns, a gold locket with picture of Padmanabhaswamy engraved on a chain of one sovereign, weighing two and a half pounds with two green enamel leaves and a white enamel conch in the middle, a gold-plated necklace weighing five pounds, five gold coins of a sovereign each.
