MALAPPURAM: Anganawadi employee Bindhu (41) and her son Vivek, residents of Areacode South Puthalam, are on cloud nine for having secured jobs by getting into the PSC rank list. In the LGS list announced last week, Bindhu has secured 92nd rank while Vivek won the 38th rank. Both of them had studied in the same coaching centre. The mother-son duo is currently expecting the advice memo for their new government jobs.

Bindhu began going for coaching at Areacode Pratheeksha PSC Centre in 2011. Working as an anganawadi teacher for the past 11 years, she had always wanted to get a good paying government job. She found time for her studies amid the house chores and anganawadi duties. In 2019, she also made her son, who was just sitting idle at home after completing BSc Geography, a study partner. As she had to work, Bindhu went to the coaching centre only on Sundays. Meanwhile, Vivek, who used to go to classes every day, would teach his mother what he had learnt in class. Four months before the exams, Bindhu took leave and went to the coaching centre with her son every day. After finishing her works, she used to study along with her son. Once the exams were over, Bindhu had expected to win good marks.

Fortune favours at 40

Applicants belonging to Hindu OBCs can apply for PSC up to 39 years of age. Bindhu was 38 when the LGS invited applications in 2019. She wrote the exam in December 2021 when she was 40-years-old. Earlier, she had appeared for the LGS and LDC exams, but her rank was above thousand. Studying together made the success easier, said Bindhu. Her husband Chandran is a KSRTC employee.
