Minimum bus fare in Kerala is double that of neighbouring states

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: While the minimum bus fare in Kerala is likely to be increased from Rs 8 to Rs 10 soon, the minimum fare stands at Rs 5 in the neighbouring states such as Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

In Karnataka, when the bus fare was revised on February 26, 2020, the minimum fare was reduced from Rs 7 to Rs 5. In Tamil Nadu, the minimum fare was raised from Rs 4 to Rs 5 after implementing the DMK's election promise of free travel for women. The minimum bus fare is Rs 5 in Andhra as well.

Govt to consider hike in bus fare tomorrow

Tomorrow's LDF meeting will consider the Transport Department's report regarding the hike in bus fares in the state. If the final decision is left to the Cabinet, the hike in bus fares is likely to get delayed. The cabinet meeting will be held tomorrow at 9 am. Otherwise, the LDF meeting must give permission to the Transport Minister to announce the decision. The bus fares for students may be increased from two to three or four rupees.
