More than five people not allowed to congregate at places of worship, offer prayers at home, Malappuram tightens restrictions

MALAPPURAM: In the wake of transmission of the deadly pandemic, the collector has ordered that more than five people should not congregate in all the places of worship in Malappuram. The regulation will come into effect from 5 pm today. District Collector K Gopalakrishnan directed the people to offer prayers in their own homes and not to gather even in their relatives’ houses. The collector said talks were held with religious leaders.

Prohibitory orders have been imposed in 16 panchayats in Malappuram. 144 has been clamped in Nannammukku, Muthavallur, Chelempra, Vazhayoor, Thirunavaya, Pothukallu, Othukkungal, Thaanaloor, Nannambra, Uoorakam, Vandoor, Pulpetta, Veliyamgod, Alangod, Vettam and Peruvallur panchayats. It will come into effect from 9 pm tonight till April 30.

The collector in his order mentioned that there are 17898 patients till yesterday and strict steps are being taken in view of the transmission of the disease and the rise in the test positivity rate.
