ATTINGAL: A car went ablaze while plying through the national highway here in Attingal. This morning, a 2005 model Maruti 800 owned by Romi, who was going from the Valiyakunnu area in Attingal to Mamut, was burnt to ashes.
When the vehicle reached near Mamut, passersby saw fire and smoke rising from the car and informed the driver. With this, Romi and his mother, who were in the vehicle, got out after parking the car nearby in haste. Within seconds, the car was burnt to ashes. Romi's Aadhaar card, ATM cards, and mobile phone were also burnt to ashes. The Attingal Fire Force arrived and extinguished the fire. It is not clear what caused the fire.
According to the local, Romi and his mother had a narrow escape. The decision to park the car away from the national highway also lessened the intensity of the accident.
On Friday, in an eerily similar case, a car was burnt while running on Konni Road. Smoke first emanated from the bonnet, and the fire was blazing within a short time. Although the fire brigade extinguished the fire, the car was completely burnt by then. The passengers made a safe escape before the fire enveloped the vehicle.
