THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The recurring complaints of vehicle owners receiving a fine notice for the same traffic violation twice, even after paying fines, will be resolved soon.
The software glitch that caused this problem was partially resolved on Wednesday. The double whammy was caused by a coordination failure between the software 'e-challan', e-court (virtual court) and the Parivahan of the Motor Vehicles Department, which receives the fine amount. Even though the fine was paid through 'e-challan', that information did not go to the e-court software. Kerala Kaumudi had reported on Wednesday that services were not available through the Parivahan site.
The software of e-challan and e-court belongs to NIC. The Motor Vehicles Department informed the NIC about the failure. Since Wednesday evening, work has been ongoing to sort out the issue. Currently, all fines paid through e-challan have been removed from the fine notices received in e-court.
The Parivahan site was hacked in 2021. The investigation by the Central Motor Vehicles Department into the data leak that occurred at that time is in the final stage. The hacking was detected and resolved.
