MEPPADI: Nazir's prayer to God when he reached the disaster area from Dubai was to spare the lives of his wife and son. On the second day, when Nazir reached his residence on Chooralmala School Road, he saw only the floor and a mound of dirt. The search continued along the river and in hospitals. Today afternoon at the mortuary, Nazir identified the dead body of his wife Naseema (42). Heartbroken, Nazir asked his relatives. Where is my son Mohammad Nasim?
Wayanad tragedy took away not only Nazir's wife and nineteen-year-old son but also his sister Rayhanath and her husband Nusrat Bhasha. Only the dead bodies of Rayhanath and Naseema were found. The bodies of the other two are yet to be found. All four were present at Nazir's house at the time of the tragedy. Nazir's daughter Nazia was in a hostel in Batheri so she escaped. Now there is only the father and daughter remaining in that house.
Eight people from Naseema's family
When the tragedy took away Naseema and her son, her family lost a total of eight people. Apart from Naseema and her son Muhammad Nasim, Naseema's mother's younger sister Khadija, her daughter Rasheeda, her husband Mustafa, son Firoz, his wife Rinu and their child were also taken by the river. They lived near Naseema's house in Chooralmala.
