New special officer in Wayanad, possible regulation to DJ parties, Rs 11.5 crore compensation: 'Decision reached' in CMs meeting

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CM Pinarayi Vijayan’s detailed discussion with people’s representatives decided to introduce Comprehensive measures to prevent wild animal attacks in Wayanad.

A Special Officer in the rank of Chief Forest Conservator will be appointed in the Wayanad district. The meeting also discussed in detail the decision taken in the previous day's meeting led by CM Pinarayi Vijayan.

The chief minister asked the nodal officers from three states to conduct routine meeting sessions. CM also mooted plans to strengthen the command control which consists of police, revenue and forest officials. A coordination committee will also be formed with the help of local self-government.

The Rapid Response team will be made more efficient such that no delay should occur in giving early warning signs. The meeting also decided to hand over a total of Rs 11.5 crore to kin of people killed in wild animal attacks. Permission was also allowed to purchase wireless sets and drones.

Rapid action will be taken in case of sudden intrusion of wild animals into human habitat. Veterinary surgeon Dr Arun Zakaria will be retained in the Forest Department. The meeting also discussed putting regulations into DJ parties organized in resorts close to wild forests.
