'Dragged Mammootty into unnecessary controversy'; Resentment within Wayanad CPM over township incident

KALPETTA: Resentment is brewing within the party over the incident in Wayanad where actor Mammootty, who arrived for the township inauguration, ended up chastising CPM District Secretary K Rafeeq. A section of Wayanad CPM leaders expressed resentment that Rafeeq behaved in a manner unbecoming of the district secretary.

Along with this, the leaders are disappointed over dragging actor Mammootty into an unnecessary controversy. There is a possibility that this issue will also be discussed in the district committee.

Left-wing cyber handles and a section of social media ruthlessly targeted actor Mammootty over the incident. Many party affiliates said that they would always keep their district secretary in higher regard than any megastar, a taunt intended at the actor. With the controversy turning worse, Mammootty dialled Rafeeq and told him how his words were misinterpreted. Rafeeq also took to social media to request netizens to end the controversy and not target the actor anymore.

While visiting Wayanad Township on Saturday, Mammootty chided Rafeeq to not stay so close tohim, as people may mistake it for a political event. However, the video of the incident went viral, portraying the actor in a haughty tone, rebuking the CPM leader.

K. Rafeeq was the DYFI Wayanad District Secretary during the Mundakkai and Chooralmala disaster. Rafeeq and his team were actively involved during the rescue operation during the tragedy, collecting scraps and conducting a biryani challenge to help the landslide victims. DYFI had built and provided one hundred houses.
