KOCHI: Samuel Jerome, a native of Tamil Nadu, who is trying to get Nimishapriya released, said that progress will only occur after Saturday regarding matters related to her release. Thursday and Friday are weekend holidays in Yemen. On Wednesday, Samuel and his mother Premakumari visited Nimishapriya in prison in the Yemeni capital, Sana'a.
Nimishapriya was sentenced to death in the case of the killing of Yemeni citizen Talal Abdu Mahdi. To be released from prison, Yemeni tribal custom requires forgiveness from the tribe and family. Talks with Talal's tribal leaders are ongoing. After obtaining their approval, Nimishapriya will apologize to Talal's family. Premakumari will also meet the family in person.
Efforts and interventions by influential people are ongoing. Samuel said that contacting Talal's family directly was not easy and could sometimes harm the mission.
