PALAKKAD: A 38-year-old woman, undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Perinthalmanna, has been confirmed of Nipah. The result of the samples sent to the Pune Virology Lab has turned positive. The woman of Nattukal at Mannarkkad in Palakkad, has been confirmed to be infected with the disease. More than 100 people are on her high-risk contact list.
The health condition of the woman is critical. The woman was diagnosed with the disease in the initial test conducted at Kozhikode Medical College and then the samples sent to the Pune Virology Lab for confirmation had turned positive.
It is not clear from where she contracted the disease. She sought treatment on July 1 for fever and breathing difficulties. The authorities of the health department are preparing her contact list. All those involved will be monitored.
Meantime, the 17-year-old girl who died at Mankada in Malappuram is also suspected to have contracted the disease. The initial Nipah test result conducted at Kozhikode Medical College is positive. The samples have been sent to the Virology Lab in Pune to confirm the disease.
The girl, who was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kottakal on June 28, was shifted to Kozhikode Medical College after her condition worsened. The girl died on July 1st.
The girl's family and the doctors who treated her have been quarantined. The girl had fever earlier. A Nipah test was conducted at the Virology Lab of the Medical College on suspicion. These results turned positive.
