THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan issued a stern warning to the police in the wake of the custodial torture scandal now tarnishing the government's image. The chief minister warned of dismissing police officials showing a criminal attitude. The Chief Minister, while talking in the meeting of top police officials, said that he would seriously consider punitive actions against officials engaging in third-degree torture on the accused. Strict action will also be taken against those involved in benami dealings and nexus with criminals.
CM Pinarayi Vijayan:
“The officials should not protect the criminals, nor should they try to evade taking responsibility. Custody torture will not be allowed anymore. The investigation should be conducted in a modern and scientific manner. For this, modern technology should be used.
It is unbecoming of the District Police Chief to protect the POCSO victim and send lewd messages to the women police officers at night. These people mistreat women. Such uncouth work ethics shown by a few are tainting the reputation of the police force as a whole, and it will further lower the morale of other officials.
The good work done by the police should be widely publicised. The law and order situation is stable. Whatever the criticism, overall, the police have done an effective job in the state.”
The Chief Minister also ordered police not to impose the KAAPA Act on public servants. Only goons and criminals should be charged with that act.
