THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that there is a possibility of rain in the state for the next five days. Orange and yellow alerts have been sounded in various districts. Two districts Kottayam and Idukki are on orange alert. Yellow alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Malappuram today. There is a possibility of the southwest monsoon withdrawing completely within a few hours and the northeast monsoon is expected to arrive soon.

The IMD has declared a yellow alert in the following districts. The possibility of isolated heavy rain is predicted. The IMD defines heavy rain (ISOL H) as a situation where rain of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is received in 24 hours. Rain accompanied by thunder is expected.

Those living in areas prone to landslides, mudslides, and mountain floods should move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities.
People living in riverbanks and downstream areas of dams should also move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities, anticipating the danger.
People living in disaster-prone areas should definitely ensure that camps are open in their place and move there during the day. For this, local government and revenue authorities can be contacted.
Those living in unsecured houses and those living in houses with weak roofs should be especially careful as there is a possibility of strong winds. Those who foresee a dangerous situation should contact the authorities and move to safer places as part of safety precautions.

During heavy rains, it is not allowed to cross rivers, bathe in rivers or other water bodies, go fishing or go for other purposes.
It is not allowed to climb over bridges above water bodies to see the view, take selfies or stand in groups.
Avoid non-essential travel completely during heavy rains. Excursions to waterfalls, water bodies and hilly areas should be completely avoided until the rain warning is lifted.
