KOCHI: Film producer Suresh Kumar has said that some film personalities and a few police officers had conspired against Dileep in the actress assault case.
“After visiting Dileep in jail, I had said that some people within the film industry and a few police officers had conspired against Dileep. Now the court has acquitted him without any evidence. Who will answer for all this? Who will answer for the trauma Dileep and his family went through?” he asked. He was reacting soon after the verdict acquitting Dileep was announced.
“It is the people who created the conspiracy who should be arrested. Could they produce even a single piece of evidence to prove that Dileep was part of the conspiracy against the actress? They could not. Now they say they will approach the higher court. Let them go. But we must understand how badly those at the top attacked this actor. Not just the police, even society turned against him. Who will answer for that? Dileep had to spend crores of rupees. It is society that must answer for all this,” Suresh Kumar said.
Meanwhile, the court that acquitted Dileep found accused one to six guilty. These accused were directly involved in the crime. Charges, including gang rape, were proven against them. Their bail has been cancelled, and they are likely to receive the maximum punishment. Sentencing will take place on Friday.
The seventh accused Charlie, Dileep, and friend Sarath were acquitted. The court said there was no evidence to prove that Dileep was part of a conspiracy and the destruction of evidence. The verdict was delivered by Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court Judge Honey M. Varghese.
