One more held from Aluva in Thiruvalla Spa gangrape case

PATHANAMTHITTA: One more person has been held in the Thiruvalla Spa gangrape case. The accused identified as Varun of Niranam was arrested from Aluva. He was arrested during an extensive investigation on the indications that the accused would leave the state. He was arrested during a scientific investigation conducted by the police after understanding that his phone location was in Kochi. With this, the number of people arrested in the incident has increased to three. Three more people are yet to be arrested.

Earlier, the first accused, Subin Alexander alias Marana Subin, and co-accused Berlin Das were arrested. The survivor had revealed that she was raped with the connivance of a colleague who was in the spa at the time of the incident. There will be an investigation against her and her male friend. The spa owner had also alleged that the attack was a result of a quotation given by his business rivals and that some of his employees are involved in it.

The police stated that if there was any lapse on the part of the police in the incident, action would be taken and the spa owner's allegations would be investigated. The police said that neither the woman nor the spa owner had filed a complaint in the incident that happened on February 1st and that the two were arrested following a confidential tip-off. The police also hid the information of the gangrape. The incident came to light after video footage of the gang abusing the woman went viral. District Police Chief R Anand said there are allegations that the police are also collecting money from the spa.
