Only hours left for PM to arrive, bomb threat in Vizhinjam, security tightened

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a bomb threat in Vizhinjam as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to dedicate the international port to the nation tomorrow. The police have started an investigation. The police have concluded that the bomb threat may be fake. A centre in Malappuram received the bomb threat. Security has been tightened in Vizhinjam. The bomb squad has arrived and is searching the area.

The inaugural function is at 11 am tomorrow. The Prime Minister will arrive in the capital city after 7 pm today after completing his visit to Andhra Pradesh and will stay at the Raj Bhavan. He will reach Vizhinjam by helicopter at 10 am tomorrow. He will inspect the operational facilities of the port. Seven people will be on the dais with the Prime Minister at the function that follows. The Prime Minister's security team will decide who they will be. The commissioning function will last for an hour and a half. The Prime Minister will return after completing the function at 12.30 pm.

There was concern that the Vizhinjam commissioning would be postponed in the context of the Kashmir issue. The Prime Minister's Office informed the state the other day that there will be no change in it. Tight security arrangements have been made. A security trial was held yesterday. There will be a security trial today. Traffic restrictions have been imposed in the capital city.

Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Union Minister for Shipping and Ports Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Ministers Suresh Gopi and George Kurien, State Minister for Ports V N Vasavan, State Ministers V Sivankutty, G R Anil, Saji Cherian, former union minister Rajiv Chandrasekhar, opposition leader V D Satheesan, MPs Shashi Tharoor, Adoor Prakash, A A Rahim, M Vincent MLA, Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani, Mayor Arya Rajendran, Adani Ports Managing Director Karan Adani and others will attend the function.
