Operation Private Practice to find private practice of government doctors in violation of law; 83 doctors caught in vigilance check

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Vigilance's state-wide lightning inspection to detect private practice of government doctors. Vigilance inspection was carried out in the name of "Operation Private Practice" at the private practice places of doctors from 4 pm yesterday. A state wide lightning inspection was conducted. Vigilance has also found that 19 doctors in various medical colleges of the state who are receiving non-practice allowance and 64 doctors in various government hospitals working under the health department are doing private practice without complying with the conditions.

Lightning inspection was conducted in places including the houses where doctors of various medical colleges were conducting private practice and rented commercial buildings and private buildings where doctors under the health department set up laboratories and recruited staff for private practice. The lightning inspection was conducted after dividing the vigilance into 70 teams across the state.

Vigilance found that 8 doctors in Kozhikode district, 3 in Alappuzha district, 2 in Thrissur district, 1 each in Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Wayanad and Kannur districts making a total of 19 medical college doctors and 10 doctors each in Thiruvananthapuram and Pathanamthitta districts, 9 in Kannur district, 8 in Kasaragod district, 5 in Kollam district, 4 each in Palakkad, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts, 3 in Kottayam district, 2 each in Idukki and Malappuram districts, one each in Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts making a total of 64 doctors working in health department were running private practices in violation of the government order.
Vigilance Director TK Vinodkumar informed that the detailed information of the doctors who ran private practice against the government order found during the lightning inspection will be given to the government for action.
Bijumon, who is in charge of the Vigilance IG, supervised the lightning inspection on the order of the Vigilance Director. All the vigilance units of the state participated in the lightning inspection led by Vigilance Headquarters Deputy Superintendent of Police Vinod C. The director of vigilance has asked the public to inform the public on the toll-free number 1064 or 8592900900 or WhatsApp on 9447789100 if they come to know about corruption.
