KOZHIKODE: Kanthapuram Aboobacker Musliyar said that he does not want to bypass the central government on the issue related to the release of Nimisha Priya. He also clarified that the central government had been informed about the interventions related to the release of Nimisha Priya, who is in a Yemeni jail, and the progress made so far. Kanthapuram had earlier informed that the family of the murdered Talal had relented following the intervention of Sufi scholars.

"Our work is done with the cancellation of Nimisha Priya's death sentence. Now it is up to the government to do the necessary things. I believe that the government will do that. The goal is to uphold humanity. I intervened in the Nimisha Priya issue to send a message to the world to value humanity regardless of whether it is Muslim, Hindu or Christian," he added.

The case against Nimisha is that she killed Yemeni citizen Talal Abdo Mahdi in 2017, cut his body into pieces and hid it in a water tank. The trial court sentenced Nimisha to death in this case. The Malayali woman's release is possible only if the family of the murdered Talal accepts blood money and forgives her. However, Talal's brother and others have demanded that the money not be paid and that the death penalty be carried out.
