
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Central Meteorological Department has announced that there is a possibility of rain in Kerala for the next five days. A yellow alert has been issued in various districts. Heavy rain is defined as a situation where rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is expected in 24 hours.
A well-marked low-pressure system is currently over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining East Equatorial Indian Ocean. It is likely to intensify into a depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours. IMD has informed that it is likely to move in a west-northwesterly direction during the next 48 hours.
A cyclonic circulation is located over the Kanyakumari sea and another cyclonic circulation is located over the central-east Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep. In this situation, there is a possibility of light/moderate rain in Kerala on January 9 and 10 and isolated heavy rain is also possible on January 10, the Central Meteorological Department has informed.
