Possibility of heavy rains and thunderstorms in the state; yellow alerts in two districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Central Meteorological Department has warned that there is a chance of rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in the state till Sunday. The warning says that there is a possibility of heavy rain and thunder in southern and central Kerala. Yellow alert has been declared in Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts today. The forecast says there is a chance of isolated rain.

The Central Meteorological Department has informed that in the next 3 hours, there is a chance of moderate rain at isolated places in the Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam districts and light rain in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Thrissur, and Palakkad districts.

As thunderstorms are dangerous, one should avoid standing in open areas if lightning symptoms are observed. The alert of the State Disaster Management Authority states that the electrical connection of household appliances should be disconnected and proximity to electrical appliances should be avoided.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center has informed that there is a possibility of 0.5 to 1.0 meter high waves and storm surges along the Kerala coast till 11.30 pm tomorrow. The State Disaster Management Authority has warned that fishermen and coastal residents should be cautious and avoid trips to the beach and recreation in the sea in this situation.
