Kerala has accepted Prabha Varma's poem 'Uttavar' about the unparalleled rescue operation in the Wayanad disaster published in Kerala Kaumudi on August 1. The poem which has spread through social media and other places is now being sung and made into a video by music directors who are also singers.

Kavalam Sreekumar, Vazhamuttom Chandrababu, Surya Kollam... the list of people who made the poem into videos goes on like this. Poet Prabhavarma receives phone calls from people even from abroad, asking him if they can make a video version of the poem.

Vazhamuttam Chandrababu recited the poem on the same day the poem was published. Orchestra and visuals were added and a video was made. Kavalam Sreekumar recited the poem in Vighavati raga. Later it was made into a video. Kollam Surya recited the poem in Sivaranjini raga.

'The idea of the poem was so lofty and grand. We wanted to add music to it and sing. This melody and singing is also a tribute to those who did the rescue work in Wayanad." They said that they are adding melody to the poem and spreading it for the new generation as well.

"It is a great hope that the goodness of the Malayalees has not dried up. I don't write response poems. But when I saw the scenes in Wayanad, when I saw the Keralaumudi newspaper full of distressing news and pictures, I couldn't help but write. Now the Malayalees have accepted it. That is because it is important to humanity. Here there is no caste...no religion...no differences of opinion"
