PATHANAMTHITTA: The Special Investigation Team (SIT), who took Rahul Mamkootathil into custody in the third rape case, collected evidence with him at the Club Seven Hotel in Thiruvalla. The team collected evidence in 15 minutes. The evidence was collected in room number 408, the room where the complainant was sexually abused. The police also collected information from the hotel’s register. Rahul has identified the hotel and the room. He admitted that he reached the room at 1:30 pm on April 8 in 2024, and spent an hour here with the woman. However, even though the police repeatedly asked him about the rape, Rahul did not say anything more.
The name recorded in the register on that day was that of the survivor. It is also recorded that Rahul B R was with her and that is his real name. However, the CCTV visuals of that day have not been received. The footage has not been stored as most security systems are not able to store data for 21 months. The police have taken the hard disk into custody to recover it.
Rahul was taken from the Pathanamthitta A R camp to a hotel in Thiruvalla at around 5.30 this morning. Tight security was in place in view of the possibility of protests. However, there were no major protests here. Rahul got out of the police vehicle with a smile as usual. However, his smile faded when he returned from the hotel. When the media asked him whether he has anything to say, he kept mum.
Reports say that he will be taken to his house in Palakkad and Adoor in Pathanamthitta for collecting evidence. The police will take a decision on taking him to Palakkad. Although the police seized his mobile phone the other day, Rahul has not given its password. He has not given any information about his laptop. Rahul said that he has evidence in favour of him on his mobile phone. The police are trying to open and examine his mobile phone.
