Rahul named first accused in charge sheet filed in Pantheerankavu domestic abuse case

KOZHIKODE: The police on Friday filed the charge sheet in the Pantheerankavu domestic abuse case. There is a total of five accused in the case. The woman’s husband Rahul P Gopal is the first accused in the case. Rahul’s mother and sister is the second and third accused. Rahul’s friend Rajesh is the fourth and civil police officer Sarath Lal is the fifth accused.

The police filed the charge sheet when the plea filed by the defendant to cancel the case was to be considered on August 8. The victim retracting her statement was widely discussed. Following that, the accused Rahul filed a plea in the high court demanding to cancel the case.


The charge sheet was filed in the judicial first-class magistrate III. The charges of attempted murder, rape and domestic violence have been imposed against Rahul. Domestic violence was charged against his mother and sister. Rajesh and the policeman were charged for helping Rahul to escape. The charge sheet is filed on the 60th day after filing the FIR in the case.


The woman had first lodged a complaint with the police saying that her husband brutally beat her. Soon, Rahul fled to Germany. The woman then retracted her statement during the investigation in the case. The woman said that her husband did not harass her and her statement was due to the pressure from her family. After appearing before the magistrate, she returned to Delhi. The accused informed the high court that the Pantheerankavu domestic abuse case has been settled.
