PALAKKAD: Rahul Mamkootathil MLA seems to be in trouble, and his arrest looks imminent. The Palakkad MLA faced the heat after a woman filed a complaint with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The Chief Minister handed over the complaint filed by the woman along with digital evidence to the DGP.
The woman's statement is likely to be recorded today itself in the wake of the complaint. Realising the possibility of a major setback for the party during the election season, the Congress leadership is trying to distance away from the MLA. KPCC President Sunny Joseph said that the party would not support Rahul. Opposition leader V.D. Satheesan avoided commenting on the issue. Meanwhile, UDF Convener Adoor Prakash clarified his stance by defending MP Rahul.
Rahul was campaigning in the Palakkad constituency in the local body elections when the news about the complaint appeared on television channels. It is reported that the Palakkad MLA's office has been shut down in the wake of the controversies.
Other reports suggest that Rahul Mamkootathil has already met with a High Court lawyer to hasten work for anticipatory bail. Earlier, the party had expelled Rahul from the post of Youth Congress state president after multiple young women came forward with sexual allegations against him. The party suspended Rahul after audio clips and screenshots of his lewd messages went viral.
