THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Human Rights Commission Chairperson Justice Alexander Thomas has directed that the construction of the Chirayinkeezhu railway overbridge be completed within two months. It has directed the Kerala Roads and Bridges Corporation and the Railways to take immediate steps in this regard.

The Commission also instructed the District Collector to closely monitor the progress of the construction. The directive came in response to complaints that traffic diversions due to the ongoing work are forcing patients travelling to Chirayinkeezhu Taluk Hospital to take long detours.

The District Collector informed the Commission that the land required for the overbridge had been acquired and handed over to the Public Works Department on October 19, 2020. He added that instructions have already been issued to the Roads and Bridges Corporation and the Railways to complete the work urgently to ease public hardship.

If any further delays occur, the matter will be raised in the District Development Council meeting, the Collector said. The action was taken based on a petition filed by Anjuthengu native Sajan.
