Rain fury in Kerala; death toll reaches four, two missing

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rains tend to be fiercer for the coming three days in the state. Winds are also likely to blow at a speed of 50-60 kmph. A cyclonic circulation has formed along the coasts of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha which is expected to reach Kerala soon. Flash floods and landslides are a probability.

Four people died in the rain wreaked havoc on Sunday. Two people are missing. Many trees were uprooted in the rains, including in the capital city. Muniya Swamy (56), a plantation worker, died after a tree fell on his scooter near Cheruvally Estate in Erumeli. Bijoy Antony (32), a native of Thattampally, met a tragic end when his car fell into a canal in Alappuzha.

The body of Praveen Shekhar (47), a native of Athirungal, who went missing after his bike fell into a stream in Konni, has been found. K.T. Ismail (21), a native of Matool, who went to bathe in the Azhikode pond in Kannur, drowned.
