THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy rain across the state today. Considering the intensity of the rain, an orange alert has been sounded for five districts: Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kannur, and Kasaragod. 'Heavy rain' refers to rainfall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm in 24 hours. A yellow alert has been issued for all other districts. The IMD has also said that rain is likely to continue over the next few days.

Meanwhile, the State Irrigation Department has issued a yellow alert for some rivers due to rising water levels. People living near these rivers have been advised to exercise caution.

The rivers under alert are:

Thiruvananthapuram: Vamanapuram (Mailamoodu Station)

Pathanamthitta: Achenkovil (Kalleli, Konni GD Station)

Palakkad: Bharathapuzha (Vandazhi Station)

Thrissur: Chalakudy (Vettippara Station)

The Irrigation Department has warned not to enter these rivers or attempt to cross them under any circumstances. People living near the riverbanks should remain alert and be ready to move to safer areas as per the authorities’ instructions.
