Rain predicted; Yellow alert sounded in four districts, special warning for Kannur, Kasargod

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that there is a possibility of heavy rain in isolated places in the state today. A yellow alert has been sounded in Idukki, Malappuram, Kannur and Kasaragod. There is also a possibility of wind gusts of 40 to 50 kmph.

As the extremely heavy rain in the state subsided, all the red alerts in various districts were withdrawn yesterday. A red alert, which is a warning of extremely heavy rain, was issued in Kannur and Kasaragod yesterday. Although the red alert has been withdrawn, an orange alert has been issued in these two districts. This means that there is a possibility of extremely heavy rain. A yellow alert has also been issued in Idukki, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod tomorrow.

• People living in areas prone to landslides, mudslides and flash floods should move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities.
• Those living in riverbanks and downstream areas of dams should also take precautions and move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities.
• People in disaster-prone areas should definitely ensure that camps are open in their area and move there during the day. For this, they can contact the local body and revenue authorities.
• Those living in unsecured houses and those living in houses with weak roofs should be especially careful as there is a possibility of strong winds. Those who foresee a dangerous situation should contact the authorities and move to safer places as part of safety precautions.
