THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains have been predicted in the state today. Yellow alert has been issued in three districts. Thiruvananthapuram, Wayanad and Kannur are on yellow alert. Isolated heavy rains are predicted. Heavy rain is defined as rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours.

A low-pressure area is over the central-west Bay of Bengal. It is likely to move north-northeastwards over the central Bay of Bengal in the next 12 hours and weaken. In this situation, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that isolated heavy rains with thundershowers are likely in Kerala today and tomorrow. A yellow alert has been issued in Malappuram, Wayanad and Kannur tomorrow.

The National Oceanographic Research Centre (NORC) has informed that there is a possibility of Kallakadal phenomenon to waves of 1.2 to 1.3 meters high along the Kanyakumari coast till 11.30 pm tomorrow. Fishermen and coastal residents should be vigilant as there is a possibility of sea erosion.

As the sea is likely to become rough, people should stay away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities. Small boats and yachts into the sea should be avoided during this time.
