THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rains in the state today and tomorrow. This is due to the presence of low-pressure areas from the Kerala coast to the south Gujarat coast and low pressure formed over West Bengal and Jharkhand.
According to IMD, there is a possibility of heavy rain at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 km per hour.
Orange Alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kasaragod today due to heavy rain. Yellow alert has been announced in Kollam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Wayanad and Kannur.
A holiday has been declared for educational institutions including professional institutions in Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad and Thrissur today. Apart from this, educational institutions in Ernakulam and Idukki functioning as relief camps will remain closed today.
Alert issued
1. As the rough seas are likely to intensify, stay away from the dangerous areas as per the instructions of the authorities.
2. Keep fishing vessels safely moored in the harbor. Keeping a safe distance between boats can avoid the risk of collision. The safety of fishing equipment should be ensured.
3. Avoid trips to the beach and activities at sea completely.
