THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains are likely to lash the state today. Orange alert has been issued in one district. Ernakulam is on orange alert. The possibility of very heavy rains is predicted in isolated places. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) defines very heavy rains of 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.
Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Thrissur are on yellow alert today. The possibility of isolated heavy rains is predicted. The IMD means that heavy rains will fall from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm in 24 hours. Rains with thunderstorms are expected. The IMD said that there is a possibility of rain with thunderstorms and strong winds with a speed of 30 to 40 kmph until Monday.
The IMD has informed that light/moderate rain with thundershowers and strong winds with speed reaching up to 40 kmph are likely at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha during the next three hours. Light rain is also likely at isolated places in Kottayam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod.
