Some good news finally; monsoon to arrive early this time in Kerala

NEW DELHI: Reports say the southwest monsoon is likely to arrive earlier this time than usual. The new forecasts of the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts indicate that the monsoon will arrive by the end of next month. The forecast also indicates that good rains will start in South India by the end of May. There were predictions that the rains would arrive early in Kerala in 2025 as well and it came true.

Although multiple factors influence the course of the monsoon, some meteorological indicators indicate a strong possibility of the monsoon arriving early. According to the sub-seasonal charts released this week, the monsoon is likely to arrive in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands between May 18 and 25. The current forecast is that the monsoon may arrive in Kerala by May 25. Meteorologists say that this is unlikely to change unless there are unexpected changes in the atmosphere. The change in temperature in the Indian Ocean will also make this year's monsoon stronger.

The monsoon is brought forward by the strong westerly winds that form in the southeast Arabian Sea towards the end of May. This wind will bring moist clouds to the Indian coast and pave the way for the monsoon.

The news of the early arrival of the monsoon comes at a time when the temperature in most states, including Kerala, has crossed the 40-degree mark. There is a heat wave warning in many districts of Kerala. One person died in Kannur yesterday due to heatstroke and several suffered burns.
