ALAPPUZHA: CPI Alappuzha Venmani local secretary Shuhaib Mohammed came forward with a rare praise on Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, the ideological forefather of the Sangh Parivar. Shuhaib Mohammed’s voice message on WhatsApp is now going viral across social media. It is understood that the leader talked about the torture and ordeal Savarkar went through while having a debate with a Congress leader.
The voice note of CPI leader:
"You cannot pretend to be a student of history and undermine the struggle Savarkar went through for Indian national independence. Before sowing seeds for the formation of BJP and the Hindutva extremist movement, there lived another Savarkar. The eminent scholar who espoused the idea of atheism. He sacrificed more for the Indian freedom struggle than any Congress leaders.
The portrayal of Savarkar shown in in Malayalam movie Kalapani is not a sham. It was rigorous imprisonment, more than what the Congress leaders could imagine. Inside the high-security Andaman jail, Savarkar sowed seeds of nationalism among other inmates, which played a big role in strengthening nationalism.
Not many leaders dared to challenge the British Empire and the queen in their land. Savarkar did the exact thing while being a student of law in Britain, and his contributions should not be scoffed at”
However, with the voice note going viral, Shuhaib denounced the voice note and alleged that his phone had been hacked. Meanwhile, the members of the group said the CPI leader might have gone a bit overboard with his praise of Savarkar in a bid to win the debate against the Congress leader.
