AMMA election: Shwetha Menon won by 27 votes, Kukku Parameswaran by 57 votes

KOCHI: For the first time in its history, the film artists’ association AMMA has elected a woman as its president. Shwetha Menon was chosen as president, while Kukku Parameswaran was elected general secretary. The other top posts also saw women taking charge- Lakshmipriya as vice president and Ansiba Hassan as joint secretary.

Out of the 500 members in the organisation, 298 voted this time, a notable drop from the 357 votes cast in the last election. Shwetha Menon won the president’s post by defeating Devan with 159 votes against his 127, securing a margin of 27. Kukku Parameswaran beat Raveendran for the general secretary position with 172 votes to 115, a majority of 57. Unni Shivapal was elected treasurer with 167 votes, defeating Anoop Chandran, who secured 108. The vice president positions went to Jayan Cherthala (267 votes) and Lakshmipriya (139 votes).

Those elected to the executive committee are Sarayu Mohan (224), Anjali Nair (219), Asha Aravind (221), Neena Kurup (218), Kailash (257), Santhosh Keezhattoor (243), Tiny Tom (234), Joy Mathew (225), Vinu Mohan (220), Dr. Rony David Raj (213), and Sijoy Varghese (189). There were 13 candidates contesting for the 11 executive committee seats, of which four were reserved for women and seven were general seats. Among the women candidates, Sajitha lost, and in the general category, Nandu Poduval failed to get elected.
