A red alert has been issued for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts today (June 15) and tomorrow (June 16). Extremely heavy rainfall is expected in these areas. According to the IMD, "extremely heavy rainfall" refers to more than 204.4 mm of rain within 24 hours.

Orange alert
The IMD has issued orange alerts for the following districts:

June 17, 2025: Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod

June 19, 2025: Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragod

A yellow alert indicates isolated heavy rainfall, which means 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rainfall in a 24-hour period.

The IMD has warned that extremely heavy rain can cause serious damage. There is a risk of flash floods and landslides, especially in hilly regions. Urban and low-lying areas may face waterlogging, and landslides or mudslides are possible due to continuous rainfall. Both the public and government agencies are advised to remain extremely cautious.

Rainfall remains intense in Kerala, particularly in hilly areas. In Nileshwaram, multiple electric poles were damaged due to heavy rain. Two deaths related to the rains have been reported so far. In Punnamada, Alappuzha, a man died after his car lost control and plunged into a canal. The deceased has been identified as Bijoy Antony (32) of Thathampally. In Pathanamthitta, the body of a youth who fell into a stream was recovered. The deceased is Praveen, a medical store owner from Athirunkal, who died after falling into the stream in Konni.
