Remand prisoner dies in Neyyattinkara sub-jail; No foul play suspected

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A suspect who was on remand in Neyyattinkara sub-jail died on Tuesday. Syed Muhammed (55), a native of Kuttichal, Kattakada died this morning after he developed chest pain inside the jail. He was rushed to Neyyattinkara General Hospital but his life could not be saved.

Syed was brought to jail 40 days ago. According to hospital authorities, the accused died long before he was brought to the hospital. Jail authorities said that Syed was rushed to hospital after he collapsed following chest pain.

Fingerprint and forensic experts examined the body before it was moved to the morgue. The body will be taken from Neyyattinkara Hospital to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital today itself. After conducting a postmortem, the body will be handed over to the relatives.

Syed Muhammad used to get drunk and create a ruckus at his house. He was arrested by Kattakada police for the same reason after getting a complaint from the family.

The family is not alleging any foul play in the incident. However, more clarity will come only after the release of the postmortem report.
