CHANGANASSERY: The NSS leadership pressured Murari Babu to resign after his name was included in the list of accused in the Sabarimala gold theft case. Murari Babu was the vice president of the NSS Karayogam in Perunna. Murari Babu, who is presently the deputy commissioner and previously an administrative officer, was earlier suspended by the devaswom board. The resignation was accepted last Thursday at the request of NSS General Secretary G Sukumaran Nair. The Karayogam accepted this on Sunday.

He was made to resign in the wake of the serious allegations of theft in Sabarimala. It was Murari Babu who registered in the Mahasar that the gold plated sheets of Dwarapalaka idols, were copper plated. Following this, Murari Babu was suspended from work. The main accused in the case, the controversial sponsor Unnikrishnan Potty, was arrested by the special investigation team. His argument was held in a closed room at the Ranni court. The SIT remanded Potty in custody till October 30 for detailed questioning. Murari Babu is likely to be questioned next. The demand of Murari’s resignation was raised in the Karayogam and the taluk union level and this led to his resignation.

Reports said that he met the NSS leadership in person and informed about his resignation. Murari Babu had sent a letter to Smart Creations for Unnikrishnan Potty to take the Dwarapalaka idols. It is reported that this action was taken before informing the devaswom board.
