KANNUR: A KPCC member is set to contest in Taliparamba after the UDF decided to support T K Govindan, a district secretariat member who left the CPM. Koyyam Janardhanan, who is also the DCC secretary, is all set to contest. Giving support to CPM rebel in the constituency has caused explosions in the Congress. The UDF is supporting CPM rebels in Taliparamba and Payyannur constituencies.
Janardhanan responded that he will file nominations on Saturday and contest from the constituency. Former DCC general secretary and block panchayat president Koyyam Janardhanan is one among the senior leaders. The local leadership and cadres of the Congress and League have stepped forward in protest against the UDF's decision to support the rebels. Many say that the leadership's decision to provide candidacy and support to leaders who have left the CPM is creating disappointment at the grassroots level.
Before the official announcement of supporting V Kunhikrishnan, who has left the CPM, was made, the Payyannur constituency Youth Congress meeting had passed a resolution against it. With the official announcement, the protest intensified. Youth Congress Kannur district president Vigil Mohan has expressed strong opposition on social media against the move to support Kunhikrishnan and T K Govindan.
The core of the statement is that when people who attacked the party until yesterday are now being welcomed and elevated, the tears and concerns of those who have worked loyally for years should not be ignored. The note also stresses that the consideration given to newcomers should not become an encroachment on the rights of committed party workers. Similar opposition has reportedly arisen within the Youth League as well. Meanwhile, the official leadership explains that this move is part of a strategy to penetrate opposition strongholds by supporting leaders like T K Govindan and V Kunhikrishnan.
